PEKANBARU - Riots between community organizations occurred at a car wash on Jalan Tuanku Tambusai, Pekanbaru, on Monday (18/11/2024). In an incident that went viral on social media, the police managed to arrest eight people suspected of being involved in the riot.

Aside from that, a number of pieces of evidence were effectively obtained for inquiry reasons. Pekanbaru City Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Jeki Rahmat Mustika, confirmed that his party has arrested eight persons for interrogation.

“Eight people have been detained for questioning,” according to Chief Commissioner Jeki, on Monday afternoon.

This riot occurred during the day, when the majority of the crowd wore black uniforms and were seen destroying parked vehicles using iron.

Several people were also seen carrying wooden blocks and damaging motorbikes, cars and buildings around the location. The incident quickly spread on social media, exposing the violence that occurred at the venue.

When police officers received the complaint, they promptly proceeded to the spot to secure the situation. The police then set up a police line around the affected area. The current condition at the place is favorable and safe.

From the results of the interim investigation, the police revealed that the riot involved two community organizations, which was allegedly triggered by personal problems between their members.

The police are now continuing to investigate the motive behind this riot and investigating whether other parties were involved.

Quoted from detiksumut, apart from the eight people who were arrested, the police also managed to collect a number of pieces of evidence in the form of wooden beams, iron and CCTV footage that recorded the incident.

It is hoped that this evidence will help further investigations and ensure that the perpetrators of the riot receive appropriate legal action.

The police appealed to the public to remain calm and not be provoked by similar incidents, and promised to take firm action against anyone proven to be involved in this riot.(*)
